I was able to attend Thursday night’s NKC Schools Volleyball Dig For A Cure event to raise money to fight breast cancer at Winnetonka, and it brought back a lot of memories. This was actually the 10th time our district had held Dig For A Cure, with the first one happening in 2008. It was Katie Dowden’s idea, when she was coaching at Northtown, but I added a little insanity to it by suggesting we hold the event outside, playing it on Sport Court in the football stadium at NKC High School. It turned out to be a very cool event: we raised several thousand dollars, a couple thousand people showed up, it was live on MetroSports, and ended up getting some local and national media recognition. I’m glad to see that our district still supports the event and, more importantly, the cause.
