I have a hard time talking about myself, so I’ll just let the record speak for itself:

Oct. 10, 1973:  Born at Mercy Hospital in Cedar Rapids, IA

Aug. 1979:  Entered kindergarten (A.M. rules, P.M. drools) at Grant Wood Elementary School in Cedar Rapids, IA

June 1988:  Graduated eighth grade from McKinley Middle School in Cedar Rapids, IA

June 1992:  Graduated from Washington High School in Cedar Rapids, IA

Aug. 1994:  Started coaching freshman girls’ volleyball and sophomore girls’ basketball at my alma mater of Washington High School

March 1995:  Won a state championship as assistant coach on the girls’ basketball team at Washington High School

May 1996:  Graduated with Bachelor of Arts degree from Cornell College in Mount Vernon, IA

April 1998:  Married Jennifer Murphy in Mission, KS

Aug. 1999:  Started teaching at New Mark Middle School in the North Kansas City School District

Feb. 2002:  Our son Murphy Elijah Corum born

Aug. 2002:  Became the head volleyball coach at Oak Park High School in the North Kansas City School District

May 2002:  Graduated with Master of Arts degree from Emporia State University in Emporia, KS

Aug. 2006:  Started teaching at Oak Park High School

Nov. 2009:  Resigned as head volleyball coach at Oak Park High School

Aug. 2010:  Started teaching at Northgate Middle School in the North Kansas City School District

Dec. 2012:  Graduated with Doctor of Education degree from Saint Louis University

Aug. 2014:  Started teaching at Staley High School in the North Kansas City School District

Oct. 2014:  Got divorced

April-May 2015:  Sold family house, moved into current house

May 2015:  Traveled to New York City with Scott Anderson to see David Letterman’s 7th to last “Late Show.”

July 2015:  Attended my first World Domination Summit in Portland, OR; traveled to Orlando, FL with Murphy

Oct. 2015:  Completed the Kansas City Marathon; officiated Missouri Class 3 state championship volleyball match

Nov. 2015:  Murphy and I went to Kansas City Royals World Series championship parade

June 2016:  Traveled to England and France as a chaperone on a school foreign language trip

July 2016:  Murphy and I traveled to Cabo, Mexico

Aug. 2016:  Played an extra in a movie shot in Kansas City:  “All Creatures Here Below” starring David Dastmalchian and Karen Gillan.

Dec. 2016:  Selected to line judge at NCAA Women’s Division I volleyball national semifinals in Columbus, OH

July 2017:  My mom, Murphy, and I go to Okinawa, Japan

Sept. 2017:  Announced the NORCECA men’s volleyball tournament in Colorado Springs, CO

Dec. 2017:  Volunteered as committee chair for NCAA Women’s Division I volleyball championships in Kansas City, MO

March 2018:  Traveled solo to Athens, Greece

May 2018:  Selected to line judge at the FIVB Volleyball Nations League women’s USA vs. Turkey match in Lincoln, NE

June 2018:  Won $161.42 on HQ Trivia

July-August 2018:  Murphy and I traveled to New York City and Dubai

November 2018:  Traveled solo to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico

January 2019:  Announced a boys’ basketball game between Staley and Webster Groves at the Hoosier Gym in Knightstown, IN

March 2019:  Began coaching Staley’s first boys’ volleyball club team

March 2019:  Traveled to Spokane, WA to referee the USA Volleyball Pacific Northwest Qualifier

May 2019:  Selected to be an official scorer at the NCAA Beach Volleyball Championships in Gulf Shores, AL

June 2019:  Selected to end court judge at the FIVB Volleyball Nations League women’s Korea vs. Germany match in Lincoln, NE

June 2019:  Traveled with Tracy Resseguie to the final round of the U.S. Open golf tournament in Pebble Beach and to San Francisco, CA

July 2019:  Served as the team liaison to the France men’s national volleyball team at the final round of the FIVB Volleyball Nations League in Chicago, IL

September 2019:  Notified by Washington High School in Cedar Rapids, IA about selection into the Washington Athletic Hall of Fame to occur in January 2020

February 2020:  Attended Kansas City Chiefs Super Bowl championship parade

March 2020:  COVID-19 physically closed school (as it turned out for the rest of the year) and taught exclusively online.  All end-of-the-year events were cancelled, and Murphy’s graduation was online.

June 2020:  Dropped Murphy off for Basic Cadet Training and his first year at the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, CO

August 2020:  Reported back to school, but only taught half of the in person students two days a week each and the remainder online simultaneously

October 2020:  Spent by birthday weekend playing golf with Murphy at Eisenhower Golf Course at the Air Force Academy

November 2020:  Selected to officiate the MSHSAA state volleyball tournament for the second time in Cape Girardeau, MO

March 2021:  Returned to five days a week of school, uteroscopy surgery for removal of kidney stones

April 2021:  Line judged the rescheduled spring NCAA volleyball tournament in Omaha, NE

June 2021:  Surgery on meniscus on right knee

July 2021:  Traveled to Key West, FL with Murphy

August 2021:  Traveled to Belize to visit college friend Jason Turley

December 2021:  Attended First Responder Bowl in Dallas, TX with Murphy to see Air Force defeat Louisville

January 2022:  Attended AFC Divisional Round game where the Chiefs came from behind on the Bills with 13 seconds left to send the game to overtime and consequently won

February 2022:  My King Charles Cavalier Spaniel, Chester, passed away from kidney failure

April 2022:  Announced the NCVF championship matches at Chase Field in Phoenix, AZ

May 2022:  Paul McCartney concert in Orlando, FL

June 2022:  Set a Guinness World Record for most people in dinosaur costumes in one place during the World Domination Summit in Portland, OR, got my first tattoo

July 2022:  Announced racquetball at The World Games 2022 in Birmingham, AL, announced at the NORCECA U17 Women’s Volleyball Championship in Tulsa, OK

November 2022:  Attended and assisted my 30-year high school class reunion in Cedar Rapids, IA, announced and line judged the NJCAA national tournament in Cedar Rapids, IA
