While I was in Colorado last week, I was still able to teach my classes thanks to FaceTime. I sat in the hotel lobby and interacted with students over the internet while a substitute teacher was physically in the classroom. Even though I didn’t spend more than 20 minutes per class “teaching,” it was enough to answer questions and keep the class moving forward. Plus, thanks to our online classroom platform called Canvas, students were able to turn in assignments, and I was able to keep up with grading while on the road. Thanks to technology, I was able to save a lot of time and effort usually associated with being absent for an extended period of time!
